Abraham Ortelius, 1527-1598. The lower map shows South Florida, Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico and islands south to Martinique. The top map shows part of Mexico. The Flemish mapmaker Ortelius published the first modern world atlas in 1570, with revised editions continuing to 1612. This map comes from that atlas.
