Guatemalan cotton appliqué with embroidery, fabric paint and embellishments Eddie Duchin's song of 1936 inspired Ms. Rippey's quilt block. "It has contributed to sustaining the romance that beckons visitors. This city belongs to many," says Ms. Rippey. Her use of the Guatemalan fabric serves as a reminder of Miami's Latin American influences. "Like many midwesterners, my first trip to South Florida occurred when I was young, the summer I was ten (1953). The impact of days of play in a tropical paradise will never leave me." |
